My Daddy Already Got That For Me

Ok, I promise I’ll back off of the son stories for a while, but here’s one more for now. When Nick was between two and three years old, he was the cutest boy in the whole world, but I was not the best Mom in the whole world. My famous one-liner that described my less than stellar mothering skills during those pitiful years was that I was that up for the Mother of the Year Award. This was a joke among friends and my attempt to excuse my parenting flaws. Well, my most shameful child-rearing faux pas was depositing my precious boy in front of the television to watch undisclosed hours of children programming, as I tried to figure out how the heck to navigate marriage, parenting and life.During this time, in addition to the regularly scheduled kids’ shows, my sweet boy used to also love watching the many commercials that manufacturers would use to bait kids, and get them to bait their parents until they bought them, like Tonka Trucks, Tickle Me Elmo, Leap frog and Animal Planet Jumbo Dino. My precious little Nick would have this saying that he would repeat after every favorite toy advertisement on TV (which after a while ended up being every single toy advertisement on TV), “My Mommy going to buy that for me.” It was cute, to say the least. He was convinced that because I loved him so much, I would be more than happy to buy him any toy his heart desired. What’s the parallel here with God our Father (trust me there’s a parallel!)? Well, God has promised to supply all our needs, not just some. Philippians 4:19 (NASB) says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” To be even more exciting, 2 Peter 1:3 says that His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness. So, we already have what we need, because we have Him inside us to provide it for us. We just need to go to Him and collect it. So, as a Child of God, I can safely say regarding any need I’ll ever have, “My Daddy already got that for me!”
