God Wants Us Weak

For the last couple posts, I've been sharing important facts about God. Here's another one and it is quite counter-intuitive. God wants us weak. Sounds crazy? I didn't make it up! He loves when we’re exhausted from trying on our own, or when we don’t know what to do. That’s when He gets to play God. If we are honest, and talk to Him about it, seeking His help, His strength gets activated. Paul says it in Corinthians, in my weakness He is strong. Usually when we go about doing our own thing and life is going great, we feel very strong in ourselves and we usually don’t have a lot of time for God except for the occasional church attendance and grace before meals, and sometimes praying with our children before bed. But when the bottom drops out of our lives and we are clueless about what to do, we get desperate really fast; and the expectation is that we will be desperatfor Him. Yet often, we seek other solutions – food, alcohol, friends, sex, shopping, Facebook (sorry!), religion (really sorry!), anything to make us feel better. But these “solutions” don’t satisfy. They weren’t designed to. God wants us weak so we will look to Him for His strength. So He allows us to fall flat on our faces, bottoming out of our own resources, engineering failure of self, as author Miles Stafford puts it, so that we will turn to Him and get to see Him work. And may I say, I love to watch Him work!
